Lies, Lies, Lies.

Because everybody lies. It’s part of living in a society. Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s necessary. The last thing anyone wants is live in a society where total honesty prevails. Can you imagine the conversations? ” you’re short and fat” one person might say, and the other might answer, “I know but you smell bad.” It wouldn’t work. So people lie by omission all the time. People will tell you most of the story….and I’ve learned that the part they neglect to tell you is often the most important part. People hide the truth because they’re afraid.

My grandma said to me when I was six, “if you go thirty-arms-length close to the railways, moving train magnates you to its body and makes you disappear.” I believed her and stayed as far as I could from trains and sometimes got terrified by pictures of trains.

At puberty, mum said, “if that boy’s hand touches you, you’ll get pregnant.” I believed her too and stayed away from boys hands.

I learned the truth about the train and a boy’s hand from my grade teacher at fourteen. At maturity, I thought about the many lies I was told and wondered why. Is there no any other way? What could be wrong with telling the truth?

But the day my five year old asked me what I was doing with daddy behind locked doors, as she said, she had been knocking for hours. I told her we were deeply asleep and that we locked the doors because we didn’t want anyome to disturb. She believed me. Very easy eh. That was a perfect answer, the way her little brain and pure mind would understand. She’ll get the wind when the time comes.

Those were the lies I was told and the one I told.

Have you been told like lie? What lie have you told someone?
