You were both friends, just good friends – on a platonic level and it’s just perfect that way.
You did things in common, went out together, had fun and shared secrets.
But one day, she ruined the beautiful twosome camaraderie.
This is what happened.
Both of you were standing on the top of an overhead bridge in your city one Sunday evening watching the speeding cars, chatting and giggling in a carefree manner as usual. The sky was becoming gloomy and cool breeze swept across your frames.
“It’s going to rain today!” You shouted deliberately.
“No it won’t! It’s mid of December!” She shouted like a child.
“No it won’t”
“It….,” you couldn’t finish because she took your cheeks into her hands and made to plant a romantic kiss on your lips. She looked like someone on fire.
It’s obvious she had fallen in love with you, man.
You pulled not just your face but your entire body away from her in horror.😳😳😳 You kept wiping your lips with the back of your and spat non-stop.
She shocked you.
” Oh my goodness! What did you do? Can’t believe this! You’re my friend for goodness sake,” you said and kept spitting her “attempted kiss” away
Her countenance changed. She became ashamed and somehow devastated.
“Well, you’re a handsome young man and I’m a lady with flesh and blood” she said, fidgeting. She placed her palms on her cheeks when she saw you didn’t feel the same way towards her.
Well, you didn’t, you couldn’t and could never feel that way towards her.
“No!” you said firmly and she went limp.
Now it’s clear to her. You had friend zoned her – your favourite friend!
Swallowed by shame, she hastened away.
She’s right. It wasn’t going to rain
You had let her realize that even though you were good friends and enjoyed each other’s company, you had not dreamed of taking your relationship to romantic or sexual level. It’s completely sex-free and that’s what it’s going to be till the world ends. You’ll only settle for just good friends – best of friends.
But she’s in love and can’t be just friends with you anymore.
So things would never be as they used to between both of you – except of course you would pretend to love her as she did.
It’s true you didn’t want to lose her but since you didn’t feel the way she felt, it would never work between you.
So you moved on.
Whenever you saw her by chance and tried to say hello, she would wave at you and hasten away – that’s just it. She didn’t want to have anything to do with you anymore.
You missed her friendship though.
You did take heart.
